Originally known as Fisher River, Peguis was renamed in 1876 after Chief Peguis, a prominent leader of the Peguis First Nation, which is now the largest First Nation in Manitoba. The town’s name honors Chief Peguis’s contributions to the area and his role in fostering peace and cooperation between settlers and Indigenous peoples.
Peguis is nestled along the beautiful shores of Lake Winnipeg’s southern basin, offering residents and visitors breathtaking views, sandy beaches, and ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.
