Known as Wagmatcook in the Mi’kmaw language, which means “the waters of Wagmatcook,” our community has a deep connection to the land and water that surround us. We are proud to be the largest Mi’kmaw community in Cape Breton and to share our rich history and traditions with locals and visitors alike.
Our community is located just off the stunning Bras d’Or Lake, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This pristine body of water provides us with abundant natural resources and offers a picturesque setting for outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and kayaking.
